Vale Daphne Fleur Malcolm
d. 27th November, 2009

All members of the TSTA will be saddened by the news that Daphne recently lost her long struggle with cancer. She dedicated her last six years to the Association, after joining just before the last circumnavigation of Tasmania early in 2004.

As with many new members she fell in love with 'the Lady' as soon as she joined, and even rough weather on part of the circumnavigation did not fade it. While coping with full-time work as a Senior Theatre Sister at the Royal Hobart Hospital, she volunteered to be nominated as a Director of the Board; after being elected, she was active on the Training Sub-committee as well as redesigning and managing the website.

She was also an enthusiastic sailer, always with her camera in her pocket ready to record all events. Many of these photos have been used for past newsletters and the website. She leaves behind a considerable legacy of her photographic records, all copied onto CDs and filed in the Lady Nelson Office (she used Fleur Malcolm for her photographic name).

After she was diagnosed with cancer, her devoted husband Mal granted her wish to have a sports car. She delighted in giving her friends lifts into town and back in her little black sports car, soft top down, auburn hair streaming behind when the weather permitted. Mal encouraged her determination not to give up, maintaining our website, attending Board Meetings and Bosun training evenings until the last.

Her contribution to the Association has been substantial and she will live on in our memories and in her photographic legacy.

Thank you, Daphne.
